Stock Refinishing (These pics are very old, sorry just haven't had time to get new ones up......)
Wood stocks get scratched, dinged and earn wear marks/patterns over time. Refinishing a stock is a multi step process starting with stripping the old finish off. This is achieved by using mild chemicals or sanding. After the finish is removed the stock can be steamed to help remove dents and sanded to remove scratches. Cracks can be glued and large gouges can be filled. In some cases the stain can be steamed/sweated or sanded out if neccessary. After the stock gets it's final sanding, stains or dyes can be applied and allowed to dry over night. The stock is then inspected for imperfections and blemishes then retouched if neccessary. The final coat can then be applied. Final coats/finishes can be wood wax, paint, polyurethanes and varnishes, Tung and Teak oils, Boiled Linseed oil, two part catalyzed finishes (Magnafill / Crystal), automotive clear coats or even a combination of processes depending on how the final finish is expected to look. Applying the final coat can take as little as one day or as long as a week depending on the products used. Once completed it will give others "Stock Envy."
